Save money with VOIP on your Telkom phone bill

Internet costs goes down, but the telco voice service prices goes UP!

There are many ways to save money, change plans, providers (VOX, Telkom ect) But all of them you still pay a monthly fee, and high call costs to mobile.

One of the easiest/cheapest ways for me.

I got a ADSL 1MB line at home and bank by FNB. Automatically if you bank by FNB you qualify for their Connect Services for free (No monthly costs is involved) You can even get your ADSL line by them.

There are also other VOIP/Internet providers like switchetel in South Africa

I simply converted my current old POTS phone into a VOIP phone using a ATA Sip Adapter. You simply plug a LAN(Network) cable into the device, and on the other side the telephone you wish to use. I used a set of 2 DECT wireless phones.

Here is a link where you could find a variety of SIP ATA Adapters

The configuration can be a bit tricky, but you can mostly leave everything default and just insert your SIP account details.

The costs is +- 95c a minute to any mobile provider in South Africa and VOIP calls to Telkom is about 35c. You also get an 087 number.

Good Luck
